Rosewood Pewter Berainesque Bookcase

French rosewood bookcase of exceptional quality with scrolling pewter inlay in a Berainesque design, incorporating a crowned dolphin crest, suggesting provenance of a noble European family. With a rectangular moulded cornice above a pair of glazed doors enclosing an oak lined interior with four adjustable shelves. The lower section with two integral green leather slides above two panelled doors intricately inlaid and enclosing a set of nine red leather drawers with gilt tooled decoration. The drawers are actually beautifully made file cases with brass handles – custom made by ‘Abel Zeller – Fabrique de Cartonnages – Paris’, complete with makers label. These sit below an open section and two oak lined lockable drawers, and were probably used for fabrics, as one has ‘Chenil’ written in pencil above the handle. On a stepped plinth base.
